We are all aware of the spread of Coronavirus, and as you might have heard, it is spreading more in the media than in real life, but it is spreading. It is spreading and at a very rapid rate. If you are an avid gym-goer then you are probably wondering if you should go to the gym during the coronavirus pandemic?
To be honest, the answer to the question is subjective and not a simple yes or no, like you would expect it to be. It depends on a lot of factors.
The most sensible and short answer to the question would be to stay at home and keep and avoid going public space including the gym during the coronavirus pandemic. Keep yourself quarantined, take the necessary precautions, use sanitizers, gloves and don’t touch your face. This would be the perfect time to stay at home, do some casual workout and take the time to rest from the gym.
But that means you cannot workout during the coronavirus pandemic. Well, not exactly because this could be the right time to start working out at home and start with calisthenics and bodyweight workouts. There are more ways to work out than to go to the gym every day and use dumbbells and barbells. If you are an avid gym-goer then you don’t need to let the virus get in the way of your gains.
Also, according to the statistics, the age group that should be worried about the pandemic belongs to the elderly age group, there is little to risk to the younger population.
People who have gone under a recent surgery, or suffered from major medical conditions or those who are suffering from the respiratory disease are more prone to the novel coronavirus. The rest of the masses should have strong enough immune systems to battle off the virus.
So, if you are below 30 years of age and don’t suffer from any of the above, then statistically, you can go to the gym and continue with the gains. But sadly, it is not that simple since there are cases coming from the younger group as well.
The advice is to not go out and actively hunt for opportunities to look for the virus. You can stay at home and workout, switch most to cardio exercise to the floor based cardio activities and switch weight-based variations to bodyweight. Simply switching chest to pushups is one of the ways.
Keep in mind to always stay aware of your surroundings, be mindful of your personal hygiene, and follow the guidelines rolled out by leading health organizations.
There are going to be a few guidelines to follow when you are working out during the coronavirus. Always keep a sanitizer handy, use gloves while working out, keep a fresh towel handy and don’t go to the gym during peak hours.
If you feel the urge to itch your face then remove your gym gloves, use the sanitizer and then go about touching your face if you want.
