It is the weekend and most likely your gym is closed or open for half the day. But, either way, it doesn’t really matter if your gym is closed or open because today it is rest day. So, yes you are going to be sitting at home an relaxing but that does not mean you can be a couch potato for an entire day, you are still following the gym routine for beginners.
There are a lot of rules about how to go about a rest day and you can read all about it on our guide to the rest day. Also, do remember it is rest day and not cheat day. Mixing up cheat day and rest day is not a good idea. Rather always have a cheat meal on a day you want to feel a little more free from the diet, but it is better to schedule cheat meals as well.
On a rest day, you are supposed to be sitting at home and relaxing your muscles but also, do a little bit of stretching and a little bit of cardio to keep your body a little warm and not restricted after being a couch potato for an entire day.
In the first week at the gym routine for beginners, we took two days off, but otherwise from week three, you should have at least a day off from the gym every week. It could on the weekend when your gym is closed or during the week if your gym is open on the weekends.
What most people do is keep working out all 7 days of the week while still following gym routine for beginners and as good as it may sound, it is not. It might sound inspiring that someone works out on all days but it is actually more harmful to your body. I’ve explained how here.
You are on rest and just like you use your weekends, a day away from office or college and make the most out of it, use rest day as a day away from the gym and make the most out of it too!
